Pachinko Balls: Buying, Cleaning and Storage

Steel pachinko balls look simple, but they are part of the machine's transport system. Condition, quantity and storage affect how pleasant a home machine is to use.

How many balls do you need?

There is no universal household number because setups differ. A static display may need only a handful for demonstration, while a playable machine with trays and a return system is more convenient with enough balls to keep the feed supplied. Buy based on the machine's actual home setup rather than a random bulk quantity.

Inspect used balls before play

Surface rust, heavy pitting, dirt or residue are reasons to separate balls from the playable batch. Damaged balls can leave debris and may not travel smoothly through narrow paths. If you inherited a machine with a bucket of balls, inspect the balls as carefully as the machine.

Storage matters

Keep balls dry and contained in a sturdy lidded container. They are small, dense and exceptionally good at escaping across hard floors. Avoid containers that can tip next to the machine or allow children or pets to access loose balls.

Do not use the balls to diagnose everything

Poor feeding may come from contamination, bent or worn components, incorrect assembly, or a problem elsewhere in the return path. If clean, appropriate balls still bind, inspect the machine rather than trying increasingly aggressive lubricants or improvised fixes.
