Auctions reward fast decisions, which is exactly why a checklist helps. Decide your maximum delivered cost before bidding and grade the evidence that is actually present rather than filling gaps with optimism.
Before bidding
- Maker and model/title visible?
- Front and rear photographed?
- Key included?
- Glass/protective panel intact?
- Trays and rear mechanisms present?
- Power requirements stated?
- Operation demonstrated?
- Shipping method and cost known?
- Return or damage policy understood?
Three auction red flags
One glamour photo: tells you almost nothing about completeness. “From an estate, no idea”: not necessarily bad, but price it as uncertainty. Cheap machine, vague freight: the shipping invoice may be the real purchase price.
Set a delivered-cost ceiling
Use the total-cost calculator and include a repair reserve. When the bidding crosses that ceiling, stop. Another machine will exist.
